Got up fairly early, and by 8 we were on our way to Fredericksburg, so I could do the Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville National Memorial Park sites- Got to all of them- Ellwood Mansion, the Jackson Shrine, the Chancellorsville VC, George Washington's Ferry Farm, Chatham Hall, and the main Fredericksburg VC. Nice visit, nice scenery. Also watched a movie about this significant site.
Then, since I was finished by 1 pm, we hustled on down to Richmond, found a Wal Mart/Lowes to park at, and then I dashed off and hit three of the five sites for the Richmond National Battlefield Park- 2 of the VC's were closed- so I got to the Tredegear Iron Works, the Chimborazo Museum, which was an excellent story about the old Confederate Hospital there, and then out to Cold Harbor. Got 4 stamps for the park.
2 New parks, 241 total now, and 12 stamps for the day.
Tomorrow, I will run about 30 miles down the road, and visit the five sites for Petersburg- and then stop back in downtown Richmond and get Maggie Walker, since it was closed today- then we will blast on down to Williamsburg-
At this rate, we may be in Greenwood by Sept 16 or 17, when the original plan was to be there the 25th. Rock and Roll- but I'm still getting all the parks- so its a win-win.
