June 3rd Still in West Virginia

Today was a short day relatively:  all told 210 miles- from Beckley WVA to Morgantown WVA.

I had scheduled two stops for Coal Heritage Historical Area, but Whipple Store was closed, and we had a bad address for the Area HQ.

Next, we did get to the Canyon Rim VC for the tri parks that make up the National Parks of Southern West Virginia:  Gauley River, Bluestone National Scenic River, and New River Gorge National River.  The New River Gorge Bridge is there as well- that is the famous bridge that allows BASE jumpers one day a year of freedom to jump.

Did 6 new counties for West Virginia today, Nicholas, Braxton, Lewis, Harrison, Marion, and Monogahalia!

Tomorrow is one of our shortest days, just 65 miles up to Pittsburgh for our first baseball game- it's a 4 pm.  Have to figure out where to park for the game too.

Saw these plates today:

June 2nd

Today was 363 miles, moving time of 6 hours and 2 minutes, total time of 6:54.

Brandon drove all day today, and did well-

First scheduled stop was a visit to the Railroad Depot in Princeton, W.Va.  for a stamp from the Coal National Heritage Area.

Charming little depot in an old train town, which owed its soul to the Coal Industry!

We arrived in Beckley, W.Va around 130 or so, and decided to eat a big lunch at Cracker Barrel.  Yummy- Then Brandon and I headed over to the Beckley Demonstration Mine in town, and toured the museum and the demonstration mine as well.  Great fun!

Think Brandon enjoyed it, and we both learned a healthy respect for the coal miners-  a very very tough life!

Tomorrow is a short day, thanks to leaving early, got a couple of Coal Heritage stops, plus the New River Gorge Bridge, which we all missed last time we tried due to a bad auto accident.  Then we will be in Morgantown WVA. for the night.

Saw 29 plates yesterday, on the way from Florida to SC.  Saw another 6 today, plus these state plates:
