Had 10 neighbors over for Christmas dinner- Ham, Turkey, trimmings, and way too much dessert! Nice gathering of good pals.
Bette got the results of her MRI- she has a torn meniscus, and now faces a surgical repair and 4-6 weeks of recovery. May conflict with our Jekyll Island trip, waiting to see about when it will be scheduled.
Got both my classes loaded up for Lander, ready to leave for SC for three weeks on Jan 11 or 12.

Visit to the Nose Doc reveals a 4-6 week window for feeling better and fixed, not 3 weeks as first thought. Ugh.

First time we have not spent Christmas with the SC family ever, feel a bit sad about that- but we will be there for 3 weeks starting Jan 12th.

We decided to add a quick trip to Jekyll Island/St Simons Island just after the New Year, so we can go to the big Jekyll Island Bluegrass Festival with the Andersons, and get in a couple of quick visits to Cumberland Island National Seashore, and Fort Fredericka NM as well. I will be picking up a couple of missing stamps at Cumberland, and hopefully a couple of hiking staff medallions as well.
We'll also revisit the St Simons Lighthouse, since I got my passport stamp book messed up earlier this year, so we can re stamp for that one. We'll stay 3 days and a wake up.
Nose is a tad better today, coughed/sneezed up a big blockage this morning, which helped. Supposed to go see the Doc Monday at 0845 for follow up, and Bette has her MRI at 0800 Monday.
Got a request from the Hartman's to maybe meet up with them in New Orleans in March/April, have to see how that might work out. Would probably fly in, I reckon, or maybe take the train?
Been working fairly hard on trip planning for Key West and Coopers California trip and the Jekyll Island one as well. Also been hard at work polishing off my Lander classes, which start up on Jan. 12 and 14.
Turns out the nose job has not been without some significant side effects and complications.
Had to make an emergency run into the Drs. office a week or so ago due to a severe nosebleed, and like the champ he is, he took me in right away. Spent over an hour in the chair while he worked to stop the blood flow. Then visited him again next day to make sure I was ok and not bleeding, which knock on wood, I haven't again.
Still have lots of drainage, not sleeping very well, and generally feeling blah. Guess it will just take time to heal, but for sure this round is nothing like the last round was. I am aware of the air flow being largely improved.
Got to PT to help out with the neck being frozen . Got a good bone crushing, and feel a little better on that front.
Plans are well afoot for the Feb 12-23 trip down to Key West and the West coast. Looking forward to having the Derry men with us.
Getting excited about the upcoming semester at Lander, will be teaching on campus this time for 2 blocks, the first 3 weeks and the last 2 weeks. We won't be running up to Greenwood for Christmas for the first time in 16 years, since Bette can't do the cold real well.
The March baseball trip is shaping up, 4 days, 4 games, 10 guys. Be seeing games in Tampa and 3 games in Orlando, and get to see the Yankees and the Red Sox, along with Toronto and Detroit.
While we are up in Greenwood, have a couple of day trips planned to get some Park Stamps, Trail of Tears, and maybe Carl Sandburg.

Went into the surgery center at 0800 yesterday, the Dr was on time at 0915, and we cleared the place by about 1115 or so. Dr Miller said everything went well, I could surely tell this time he roto-rooted the turbinates more so that Dr Eisenhower did the last time, and I for sure have a big plastic spreader in my nose, as you can see from the photo. It's been very stuffy,as he said it would be, and lots of oozing but that has abated somewhat today. Hope I don't sneeze out the plastic thingies like I did last time.
I apparently weathered the being put to sleep OK, there was some concern about that, as well as my bleeding level somewhat. Throat is sore a bit from the tubes being put in to put me under.
It's at least behind me now.
May not go to the community breakfast tomorrow, have to see how I feel. We're supposed to close on the refinancing of the house tomorrow at 10, and the men's lunch is at 1130.
Saturday is the big kick off and parade downtown, may try for that, and take Vicky Cole if she wants to go- think she might enjoy that. She's down until the week after Christmas, and she's one of my favorite folks!! There is also a veteran's day something that I'm going to with the guys.
Monday, we have PT with Amanda together, and then Tuesday, we're running down to Wildwood to pick up the coach with its new awnings and new tires. Hopefully they resolved the electrical issue. Will kept telling me everything checked out OK- I do not share his view- We'll see.
The pond has been pretty busy since our return; there are usually two gators present on the bank, which is a bit unusual, our turkey wandering flock appears once a day, and several large turtles are present, and they have taken to sitting on the banks. Had a lone duck, and several herons lately also. Still no eagles or ospreys, darn it.
We are now back in Florida, with the "Florida" routine...
Coffee in the morning for me, water aerobics for Bette. PT for both of us once a week, tomorrow I have my surgery with Dr Miller, at 0700- tonight we are headed to Osteen's for dinner the Coles can't make it, so we are taking Dixie and Elaine out for dinner.
Thursday Bette has her last craft show for the year- then she says she is going to clean up and throw out= don't hold out much hope for that.
Worked on the summer trip a long while in last couple of days, we've decided to go ahead and bring Cooper back to SC ourselves instead of putting him on a plane, which means we are having a short trip. We have to have him back by Aug 11th. Then, depending on whether or not I have to be on campus at Lander for the fall semester, we will either stay in SC until Sept 1, which is the first day of classes, or head out somewhere for a month or so if I don't have to go back to Lander.
I added bunches of stops for Cooper, several potential major league ball games, seeing the Macy's 4th of July fireworks, Acadia National Park, Moosehead Lake with the Coles, Williamsburg, and stops at Hershey Park and Carowinds as well. He ought to be a happy camper, since we are also going out to California for two weeks in June.
We close on the refinancing of our Florida house this Friday at 10 We had a very pleasant experience with the local branch of Sun Trust, and the branch manager was quite professional, and we are looking forward to our relationship with them.
