June 12th Back in Phoenix.

Today's trip:

Some trip stats:  Total miles:  1497   Total expenses:  1,124.45 



Up early this morning, coffee at the food court, then we left about 0830.  We had a nice breakfast at McDonalds, then down to Williams Visitor Center for a couple of stamps.
Then to the Quality Inn Airport.  Then, drove the car back and dropped it off, then rode the courtesy van back to the hotel.

Plan for now is to take the 9 pm shuttle back to the airport and take the red eye home!

June 11th Did the canyon today.

Have no internet in room, have to go down to lobby.  No air conditioning in room either. 

Did the canyon today.  Drove to 5 sites for stamps, then walked to Kolb Studio then took the shuttle bus to Hermit's rest.  All told, got 19 stamps here at the canyon.

Have to post pictures later, email is acting up.  I'll amend the post tomorrow from Phoenix.

Tomorrow is out by 0930 Cooper says, then down to Williams for a stamp stop, then to Phoenix to the motel.  Then we have an 1120 pm plane red eye to Charlotte.  Been overall a pretty good trip! 

June 10th Big Water, Cameron, and South Rim

Got up early and ran into Utah (18 miles) and stopped at the Big Water VC primarily for Grand Staircase Escalante NM.

Next, after I wake Coop up, an hour and 10 minutes down to Cameron AZ to the trading post for "Navajo Tacos." 

 

 Then, on to Maswick Lodge at South Rim, Grand Canyon.

June 10th Back over to Page AZ.

Roadside Oddity- Pizzeria Schooner in Page

 







Short day today:  Just 188 miles got to 7 locations, some of which were closed.  Made it back to Page AZ. to the Travelodge. 

Did 3 stops in Fredonia while Cooper slept in, then back and picked him up and headed to McDonalds for breakfast. 

Did Pipe Spring, park #306! 

 

 

 

 



Then on to 2 stops near Marble Canyon, one of which was closed.  Then on to Page, we got there at 1 pm, but were told we couldn't have our room until 3 pm!  So we went to lunch at Jack in the Box, then got into the room at 235.  Pizza Hut for dinner. 

 

Tomorrow is down to the Grand Canyon for 2 days! 

June 9th Short day today- but busy.

Man, forgot I was in the desert this morning!

BTW, this is our transportation for the week, a Hyundai Accent

Letting Coop sleep in.  I'll do 3 local stops around Fredonia AZ, then come back and pick him up. 

Only about 140 miles today all told, but 7 stops for stamps, if I can find them.

June 8th On up to Kanab Utah today!

Here was the trip for today:

 

 

233.7 miles- Total moving time 4:23  We are currently in the Day's Inn Suites in Kanab.  Arrived about 350 or so.  Got a new Utah county, Kane County. 


First stop was Sunset Crater Volcano NM in Flagstaff AZ.  Only 2/5 stamps were out.

 

 



It's Sister Park, Wupatki was just 18 miles up the road...  They were doing road construction so we had several delays.  Got 2/3 stamps were there. 

 



Then, on to Page AZ, where we will head back to tomorrow night.  We decided to stop at the John Wesley Powell museum, got a bonus and an Old Spanish Trail NHT

Then, on down to the Carl Hayden VC for the Glen Canyon NRA.  Also got an Old Spanish Trail Stamp and one for Rainbow Bridge  NM



This marker was just down the street from the hotel- had to do with the founder of the town, a Mormon. 

Tomorrows plans are:
Anasazi Museum in Fredonia, The Kaibab NF Ranger Office in Fredonia, Pipe Spring NM, the Kaibab Plateau VC in Jacob Lake, then Marble Canyon AZ for the Navajo Bridge VC and Lees Ferry Law Enforcement Center, then on to the Travel Lodge in Page AZ.  Also need to stop at the HQ for Glen Canyon NRA.
