Day 34 On to New Orleans

Today went as planned pretty much-  left Lafayette at about 0730, headed about 110 miles down the road and stopped in at Thibidoux La at the Wetlands Arcadian Center for a Jean Lafitte Stamp, then headed over to Bayou Segrette State Park, just outside of New Orleans on the south side of the river.  Beautiful park, our space is water/electric, right next to the bathhouse, and its 21 a night with all fees.

After setting up, I ran on over to 2 more sites for Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, which was the Barataria Preserve location, further south of the campground, and then also Chalmette Battlefield, which is west of the city.  Very interesting sites, both very different-  Barataria is a swamp basically, reminds me of Congaree in South Carolina, and the Battlefield was on the site of the American Victory of the War of 1812.  Got several stamps, and a pin at both locations.

On the way back, I was directed by the GPS to take the ferry!  It was free, and a very short ride-  I missed the one ferry by being one car late, so I had to wait for a crossing, about 30 minutes.

Here's a scene at Chalmette Battlefield-
Tomorrow, we are going to take the ferry (walking) over to downtown New Orleans, and do the New Orleans Jazz park, and the downtown location for Jean Lafitte.  We also might wander a bit.  Then, we are hoping to join our niece for dinner.
