Major trip change!

I woke up at 230 this morning, thinking about the trip as I had set it up, or rather the mis planning I might have done.

Looked at a map, and now, we will be heading to Salt Lake City to pick up Brandon by this route: ( Click on it to enlarge it if you like..)

Originally, we were going to leave Monument and go to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and head over on I-80 to Rock Springs, and stay in a remote Forest Service Campground for 4 days, with no facilities....  then go over to Vernal Utah, then work our way over to Salt Lake City.

Instead, we will now go back down towards Pueblo, over on Route 50, which is a good primary road, and head over first to Gunnison Colorado area.  We are booked into the Elk Creek area of Curecanti National Recreation area for 4 days, then, we will go to Grand Junction Colorado, boondock for a night, then over to Moab, Utah, then to Delta Utah, then up to Salt Lake City in time to pick up Brandon when he arrives on Saturday, June 4.

I'll miss a couple of National Parks along the way with the route change, but I will also visit several that were going to be missed this trip in Colorado:
we'll hit Curecanti NRA, Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, Colorado NM, and in Utah, will add Arches and maybe Canyonlands NP's  have to see how the scheduling works out.

We might wind up rescheduling the trip somewhat after Yellowstone on July 4th to catch the spots we missed in Wyoming, have to see if we pick up any days.

What messed me up is I failed to realize we were in the Memorial Day weekend crush for camp grounds...  I remembered to take care of 4th of July (we are booked into Yellowstone) and Labor Day, (we'll be in Greenwood,) but forgot about Memorial Day...

I got the very last spot at Elk Creek when I went on line, and then cancelled out of Firehole Canyon in Wyoming this morning also.

So, look forward to those trip reports, and some better weather...  after all its almost June 1st!
