Well, deja-vu. Last year when I came to Mom's I had a terrible head cold, and stayed in bed for three days- this year, its a milder cold, but have some bad chest gunk too, sore throat, and generally don't feel real hot- but not feverish, so that meant I could travel-
We crawled out of bed around 830, then we had a nice cereal and orange juice breakfast, with fresh fruit, nicer than any hotel around, I believe!
I got in the car, and headed for Petco Field in downtown San Diego, so I could get a ball and pin for the Padres, which I had not gotten the last time we visited, which was with Brandon on our trip way back in 2007 or 2008. Then, I decided to head over to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, to visit their museum. Had a minor hassle getting in the gate, seems I was at the wrong one, even though the museum was right in front of me, but I got on, did the museum, and found some nice pins to add to the Marine Corps collection.
One for the MCB Camp Pendleton |
One for the 1st Mar Div |
One for the 2nd Mar Div |
One for MCRD San Diego |
While I was at the museum, I noticed a display of things to do locally, so I decided to head back up the 805 to MCAS Miramar, to visit their Air Museum. Had a bit of an issue finding it, since I didn't have a GPS address for it, but I managed to hit the gate for it. They had a little museum, and about 40 displays of Marine Aircraft, some helicopters, and a few pieces of other ground equipment and rolling stock. Best thing was it was free!
Took photos of each plane, and I'll be sending Bill the photos of the rolling stock for him to glance at. He's the family expert on military vehicles.
Got a pin for the MCAS Miramar.
One of the aircraft on display
Think this was what they called a Jolly Green Giant
One of the three armoured vehicles they had.
Think we're having Chinese take in tonight here at the house. Bette is supposed to bring me back some Nyquil, so I can get some sleep tonight.
Tomorrow, nothing planned, except for going over for dinner with Judy Williamson.
Oh, also found this neat pin at Petco, that explains San Diego: Its got the park, the Coronado Bridge, the Trolley , downtown, an old mission, and the Hotel Del Coronado as well as the Padres logo- way cool.
