We met the Hebbards up in Maine several summers ago, and have kept in close touch. The Captain had been ill for pretty much the last year, and went off watch today at around 5 pm.
He was a wizard of a guy, one of the "originals" of the Navy's nuclear submarine program, I'm pretty sure he was a protege of Adm. Rickover- and he was special.
