We are lucky, lucky, lucky that there was not a major fire- as you can see the plastic cover melted through.
Then, we did a strategic change in schedule, since it looked like it was going to rain lots, we decided to just run downtown and get a ball and pin for the Vermont Lake Monsters- Check, ball yes, pin no. Turns out to be a wise call, since they apparently don't have a team store at their ball field.
Then, we decided to head down the road a bit to the factory tour for Ben and Jerry's Ice cream, that was fun- and inexpensive, and we got a nice sample of ice cream in the deal too. No pin there, though.
This is a replica of the original, the original burned up. They did a national tour promoting their ice cream to widen thier audience early on. |
From there, we headed down I-89 towards National Park #210- Marsh Billings Rockefeller NHS- which has a sister site, the Billings Farm Museum. By the time we got there it was raining steadily- got 3 stamps there.
The GPS took us on scary narrow, bad back roads to the park.
Then, we headed to our rest stop for the night, the Wal Mart at Lebanon, NH, just inside the state. Tomorrow morning, I will run about 12 miles down the road to get to St Gaudens NHS in Cornish, then we will head about 120 miles or so over to Wells Maine, where we will be for the next 3 weeks, finally getting a bit of a rest, and for Cooper to see old friends, and me to get to the Boston area parks, and also a Heritage trail or two. Then on July 22, Cooper will head back home.
