We had originally planned to go to Sioux City Iowa, spend the night, do a couple of Lewis and Clark Trail sites, and get a pin and baseball for the Explorers.... Then we were planning to drive up to Sioux Falls, SD, and spend one night, then head on down to Omaha.
Well, we decided to not go to Sioux Falls, save 160 miles, and try to do Sioux City, but when we got there, the city was being beseiged by floods of the Missouri River. We couldn't visit the two Lewis and Clark sites, they were closed due to flooding. We parked at a Wal Mart, then unhooked, and got to the Explorers field, but they were not in town. We got a ball, they don't have pins, then we ran up to a Bank of America to do some business, then we shopped in Wal Mart for a couple of things.
We decided to go ahead and pick up three days and head to Omaha. We had to take a big detour because of flooded roads, and then missed a turn to the podunk campground we are at.
Here's a shot of the flooding we saw, not excellent photos, but you get the picture....
The campground is not one of our better efforts. It only has 30 amp, and we have been blowing the breaker every five minutes ever since we set up.. We finally gave up and turned on the generator.... There is water, but no sewer, the site is muddy, on grass, but we managed to get level anyway... so far. I plan on sending a letter to RPI about this place.
While we are here, we plan to go to a Storm Chasers baseball game, visit Rosenblatt stadium, see a few Lewis and Clark sites, and a big Trail Interpretive center. Will be a busy three days.
From here, we will run over to Des Moines Iowa area for a two day visit, to do some stamping, then over to Cedar Rapids for baseball and stamps and Amana Colonies.
