We didn't manage to sleep in at all today, it was a little chilly this morning, around 42 or so... We all managed to be up and ready to go around 0830.
We headed about 30 miles over to the Golden Spike National Historical Site, which is the point where the Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railways met near Promentary, Utah.
We arrived at about 940... At 10, they bring out the two engines that they have restored and re-create the event that happended on May 10, 1869, where the two engines met and a golden spike was placed, well actually, apparently several spikes were used to commemorate the event, a silver one, and so forth.
I must say, these engines, which were rebuilt in 1975-79, are the most beautiful example of restoration I have seen- they are painted, have gold leaf highlights, bright brass and chrome, and shined to the nines....
We posed for a group shot next to one of the wagons on the site....
I squeezed in a 20 minute movie that gave the history of the event, and we were on site for about an hour and a half.. Got a total of five pins, and three stamps. Awesome visit!
After that, we found a Wal mart, after misfiring when the GPS actually took us to a Wal Mart distribution center first, but got in and got all provisioned, and a new three drawer storage unit for Brandon's things... Spent almost a hundred dollars! Worth it though, good to see Brandon and happy to feed him!
Brandon discovered that he forgot to pack his game controller for his X Box, so we also made a quick stop at Game Stop to fix that error- He also got a headset. So now, he's good to go. I never did belong to the gaming generation, he must have 20 games for that thing!
When we got back, we unloaded and stored, and then Brandon and Bette went down to the pool....
Beautiful moderate temperatures today, high about 82, but no humidity....
Tomorrow, about 95 miles up the road to Castle Rocks State Park in Idaho.. so we can go to the National Preserve there, be spending two days taking it all in.
