Over to Walsenburg, Colorado, finally, the Rockies!!!

We left John Martin this morning about 0815, escaping the attack of the killer moths.. they have something there they call Millers, I think, and last night there were over 100 killed (swatted) and they were still in the coach this morning!  We were warned about them by a fellow camper on the way in, but we had no idea....

An easy 121 mile drive over to Walsenburg this morning, across the flat southern plain, for most part, then voila- the Rockies!  We saw them from about 60 miles out, then our campground, Lathrop  state park, sits right at the base of the front range of the Rockies..  We are at 6500 feet, and trust me, you can feel the altitude.
We have a totally awesome site for the next four days, looking right into the Rockies, right next to the comfort station, full sat, strong wifi signal, concrete pad, totally level, and 50 amp service.  Pow!

Another view of the far range to our left.... Not sure what the snow level is....
We're finishing up lunch, and we're heading off to the town of Walsenburg to putz around.  We made a major Wal mart stop in La Junta for a massive provision stop, so were good and set.  Tomorrow, we're off to New Mexico to Capulin Volcano NM, and then a stop in Trinidad Colorado for some Santa Fe Trail stuff and other history stops.   Sunday, we're off to the Great Sand Dunes National Preserve
