Day trip and change of plans #3 and more excitement...

We got to the Piney campground, and it started to rain pretty heavily, so I decided to go ahead and take tomorrow's planned loop daytrip today, so off I went first to Hopkinsville, Ky, to the Trail of Tears Center, and got 2 stamps there.  Then, over to the Visitors Center for Land Between the Lakes at Golden Pond, Ky to get a USFS stamp, then back to the Piney campground. On the way over, I almost hit a tree lying across half the road, doing a full 55 mph before I realized it was there, and then, came across this little adventure, which turned out to be right outside the campground entrance.  This tree had been down since 1 am last night, and it was 3 pm this afternoon, and no barracades, no nothing, and the live wires it took out just laying in the road.  I had to do about a 30 mile detour backwards to get back in the campground, man was I not a happy camper.  Bette was also upset, since they had no power all day, (still don't as I write this at 6 pm) and no water service, and no bathrooms.  Plus we had to pay a 22 dollar upcharge for the 50 amp spot.  Bette went up to the office not a happy camper, and they said they "couldn't do anything" but would send a supervisor.  We're still waiting......

Here's the downed tree that almost got me....  still lying there, almost 36 hours later.  I had a notion for about 2 minutes that I might drive through the far left hand side, but it was all mushy, and I really didn't want to scratch the car up that bad-  So I made a 30 mile circle detour.

the USFS boys and girls are right on top of the customer service side, here is what serves as the bathrooms until further notice- no waiting, as you can see.

this is the view four campsites down from us, we were moved up because they had a large concern about the river rising out of its banks.

and now, change of trip plans number 3...

We've had enough of NFS hospitality here at the Piney campground, so we're pulling up out of here in the morning, and heading 244 miles over to Van Buren, Missouri, so I can get the stamps for the Ozark National Scenic Riverway.  Then we'll head towards Springfield, Missouri, and Wal Mart it for a night, then we were able to get into Table Rock Lake COE 3 days early, so we will now stay there for 5 days.  That is about 45 miles south of Springfield.  So today, I was able to call up Sister Sherry, and it looks like we will run up to their place in Camdenton Missouri on Saturday and spend the day, and hopefully see Jess and her boys.  Lots of things to do around Springfield, a baseball team, a couple of National Parks within driving distance, and then just some rest too.  Also we need to do laundry, Sherry, can we bring ours to Camdenton??????

Stamps today:

these two are part of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, and I got them at the Trail of Tears Conferene Headquarters at Hopkinsville, Ky.  Got there just in time, after a 60 mile drive, the lady was boxing her stuff up, in case the location got flooded, and it was coming that way, her dance grounds were under water already.  She didn't have any pins for her location.

These were from Fort Donelson, the Tennessee Historical Commission one is considered a bonus stamp, since it isn't issued by the Eastern National Program.

This is obviously from the Land Between the Lakes Visitor Center- Its my first Dept of Agriculture "FS" or forrest service.  This is also considered a bonus stamp.  The didn't have any pins here, darn it.  Almost got a walking staff medallion that I could have used as a pin, but passed on it.
