Frustrating visit to Augusta today.....

Brandon, his pal Sam and I hit the road at 8 this morning- Cooper bowed out to recover from his teeth extraction yesterday.  We headed on down to Augusta with the intent to visit both units of the Augusta Canal National Heritage area, as well as a couple of other spots.  On the way down, I realized we were passing by the Headlands locks part of the unit, so we pulled off, set the GPS, and down the road we went.   I nearly missed the visitors center, and we were actually there a few minutes early, so we wandered around the very pretty lock system, and then got into the center at a few minutes after 10-  We got a stamp from the NHA part of the system, it's not an "official park, but still a stamp.  The docent at the visitor center was very glad to see us, and told us about a visiting exhibit they had of art from Ellis Island.  I got a pin for free from the county, but there wasn't any Heritage area pin.  From there, we hit the downtown unit of the Area, only to find the museum/visitors center/gift shop locked tight, even though it was supposed to be open.  We headed over to Woodrow Wilson's boyhood home, had a nice 45 minute tour there, then went to eat at Subway, then headed over to the Augusta Visitor's Center, totally nothing there to get, and the Museum was also closed.  Grrrr.  We decided to stop by Edgefield to try to catch the SC Heritage Corridor office, but it was closed too for the holidays.  Still had a good day of visiting.
