Made a snap decision tonight to head 52 miles into Atlanta to see the Braves play the Brewers. By doing that, I was reminded why I do NOT like major league baseball, and prefer minor leage sites. It took us an hour to get into town, knowing that we might be a little late, since we didn't decide to even go until just after 6 pm. First thing that went wrong was my inablility to follow basic gps instructions, so I drove by the field. Grrrrrr. After looping around, couldn't make three straight lefts the gps wanted me to take, bucause the locals had the roads all blocked. We got caught in a major traffic snafu, due to how they choke off the traffic around the stadium, and the limited public parking, particularly when the game is a sell out, as this turned out to be. Well, we managed to find off street parking for $10, about 10 blocks from the stadium, in what I would safely call a somewhat questionable neighborhood. At least it was a church parking lot- no worries, they said, "We'll watch your car." So we walked about 6/10ths of a mile to the stadium, had to walk around to the ticket booth, which of course was jammed, with maybe a 25 minute wait for tickets. We got on line for the auto ticket booths, and as we got up, were advised that the only thing left were 51 dollar seats, or 10 dollar standing room only tickets. Much to Cooper's chagrin, we opted for the standing room only tickets. There was no one around to direct us with regards to where to stand, so we milled about until we managed to find a somewhat decent vantage point on the concourse level high up in center field. And we stood. The place was a madhouse of fans. It truly was a standing room only sell-out. Another reason not to like major leage venues, bottled drinks were 4.50 each, no cheeseburgers, hot dogs were 4.75 and 6.50. Cooper wasn't feeling so hot, so we started to leave in the bottom of the seventh inning. Long hot schlep back to the car, nothing was missing, but then the pattern repeated itself as we tried to leave, had to take three alternative routes due to how they had the streets blocked. Grrrrr again. Finally got home at about 1030, now there is a driving rainstorm going on. At least it didn't rain at the ballpark. Think I'll confine my baseball viewing to minor leage games in the future, it's just a better experience. The Braves lost, by the way, due to Cecil Fielder's home run, among other things. Then, Fielder got hit by a pitch the next time he was up. Hmmmm. Bobby Cox and the pitcher were both ejected from the game.
