October 29, 30 and 31st On way home- Trip changed again!

October 29:  We left Mesa Spirit and got to El Paso Wal Mart- 558+ miles, and parked at the Wal Mart- Then, got to stop by an old Beaufort Hight School classmate, Dave Hendrix, and his wife Jo Anne, who lived very close to the Rosenburg's, where we were headed for dinner- so we got a twofer!

Bette is more than happy to drive, and I am happy to let her!

We found Buster a nice spot in the sun-

Here's two shots approaching Las Cruces, where Maryann went to school.

October 30th

Total for the day:  432.5 miles, Max speed 72, moving Avg 59 mph: Total travel time 8:31, and we averaged 13.4 mpg fuel efficiency.

October 30th  El Paso to San Antonio Wal Mart- Total miles: 558.2 Max 73mph, moving avg. 60 mph, total travel time: 10:50 hrs.

Around Vidor, Tx, it stopped!

Here is a shot of the store we are staying at tonight:

Tomorrow we are aiming to head on into St. Augustine, about 515 miles or so.  Weather should be good, and we are looking at about 9 hours + with a stop for fuel and lunch.  That is one day ahead of schedule!

We saw the PFC Milton Lee Medal of Honor Memorial Highway:
Private First Class (PFC) Milton A. Lee joined the Army in San Antonio in 1967 and was deployed to Vietnam. He served in the 101st Army Airborne Division as a radio telephone operator with 3rd Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 1st Brigade. Moving through intense enemy fire, PFC Lee conducted a one-man assault in order to secure a point of safety for his fellow soldiers. After securing the first point, he was mortally wounded while assaulting a second position. PFC Milton Lee, who was just 19 years old, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty
