Did a major visit to Portsmouth NH today, spent maybe 4-5 hours. Very successful visit- saw 12 markers, found 3 new ones, and saw 16 National Register Sites, and revisited several shops and stores downtown. Also made the main thrust of the visit, a visit to the Portsmouth Athenaeum, for a photographic display. Terrific visit!
Among the National Register sites:
Among the markers, the Liberty Pole and Bridge, with 3 new plaque additions, 2 markers for the Point of Graves, North Cemetery, The Fitz John Porter monument, The Treaty of Portsmouth 1905, The Oracle House, Temple Israel, a new marker for the red light District.
Discovered several city markers that have been redone, that are also not listed, so it will be another field trip to Portsmouth! Also have a few national register sites to polish off- plus it's just a neat city to visit!
