July 24th The Hull Lifesaving Museum- One of the best I've been to!

This museum is located at Hull, Massachusetts, sort of down the bay at the entrance to  Boston Harbor.  As a result of it being at the entrance, there were hundreds of ship wrecks in the area, and also some lighthouses, and several forts built to defend the harbor on many of the Islands in Boston Harbor.

Hull sits at the entrance to Boston Harbor
It was right on the take off angle of Logan Airport, so you could see a plane a minute taking off-
It was here I learned the fascinating story of so many things, thanks to the incoming college freshman who was the tour guide- We spent almost an hour going through the building-  climbing up to the cool observation tower on top of the building as well-  The building wasn't supposed to be open, since they were getting ready for a big event today, but he went ahead and walked me through.

I learned about the Massachusetts Humane Society- not the one for dogs, but the one for saving human lives, which became the official US Lifesaving Society, sponsored by the government, which ultimately became the US Coast Guard, which now of course is part of Homeland Security.

I learned about the fellow Joshua James, a legend for saving lives - saved almost 600 or so.

I learned about the "Portland Gale", and the schooner Portland, part of the local lore here-

I learned about several of the ships who perished on the rocks and shoals around Hull-

I saw two lighthouse views, Boston Harbor and Graves Light

I learned about the Lyle Gun, which was used to shoot the breeches buoys out to the ships.

Pretty cool-  I'll be posting separately about the various subjects above.
