At one time, the Mighty Greenwood Mills company had 20 or so plants, employed 15,000 people, and did several hundred millions of dollars in revenue. Today, they are mostly shut down, and many of the plants have been demolished, including the Matthews Mill here in town. The Mill Village houses still stand, providing cheap housing for low income residents- and one last vestige of the Mill is this nice monument erected to honor those who gave their lives in WWII.
