April 27 National Register of Historic Places Tour- Greenwood County SC

Turns out there are 21 properties on the National Register in Greenwood County-  I had been to a few of them, not to several.

Today, I got to 10 of them:

Barratt House-  Which is actually the former home of Congressman William Jennings Bryan Dorn-  I had gone to Dorn's cemetery plot the other day, and passed by the house, not knowing it was on the register.

J Wesley Brooks house, also known as Scotch Plains Plantation House.

Lander Old Main Building, on the campus of Lander University where I teach

Mt Pisgah AME church, which is located at the rear of another cemetery I visited the other day

Old Cokesbury College building in Cokesbury

Old Greenwood Cemetery

Old Greenwood High School building, which has been converted to apartments

The James Self House - Mr Self was the founder of Greenwood Mills here in town.

Sunnyside, a home built in 1846

and the Vance/Maxwell home.

I'll do separate posts on each of them.

Also met up with Tony over at Corley's grocery so we could get steaks for a family grill out tonight.  Tina is still in Charleston, but should be on her way home by now.
