You can tell whenever we get to New York- Bette starts pressing to get home- she started in again Saturday, so I cut short a day of touring HRV sites, and we went ahead and came down to New Jersey on Monday- We originally were going to stay at Camp Wal Mart for several days, but decided instead to stop in at the County Park in Freehold, which is sort of centrally located, for two nights and then we'll move down to Hamilton for several days.
Rained a bit on the way down, then it rained hard for an hour or so just after we got set up- this is a rural park, set in the deep woods, a bit narrow, lots of trees to carefully manuver around, 30 amp, long reach to the water, no sewer, all for 37 a night- welcome to New Jersey...
Not many folks here but they said they were going to be full Labor Day of course-
Spent all of yesterday planning and replanning this week, and setting up for stamp runs-
Looks like today, I'm gonig to run into Philadelphia, with a bonus visit to Valley Forge and the Eastern National Headquarters building, then head on to downtown to get as many of the stops there as I can- it was a toss up because a couple of the locations are closed today, but I can still stop by and get stamps at other locations, so it would be a wash, I guess-
Today, I'm also scheduled to hit 8 other stops along the way, Independence NHP, Ben Franklin Memorial, Edgar Allan Poe House, Declaration House, Pemberton House, The Philadelphia Customs House,Thaddeus Kosciuszko House, Gloria Dei Church NHS, plus there will be a couple of sites for the Underground Rail Road, and if time permits, I'll stop at the Camden River Sharks for a baseball visit on the way out. Also get stamps for the Schuykill River Valley NHC at two locations, so it should be a busy day....could be as many as 40 stamps, including duplicates- plus a bunch of pins and hiking staff medallions- Its about 70 miles over to Valley Forge, the furthest stop away- Cooper was at Valley Forge on his school trip right before we picked him up, and we passed there earlier on the trip!
Wednesday, I have a day trip planned for the Metro New Jersey stops, after we drive the coach down to Hamilton- stop in at Trenton for a stamp location, plus baseball visit, then up to Newark for baseball visit, then the new park at Patterson Great Falls, then revisits to Edison and Morristown, to get to parts of the parks there I had missed previously.
Thursday is a train run into Manhattan, where I will be meeting up with 4 or 5 other stamp club members for lunch, then doing some Metro NYC stops, I need to get to African American Burial there, which has been closed the last two times I tried, plus at least Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace, and if time permits, two stops uptown, Gen Grant and Hamilton Grange-
Friday, I'm scheduled to go over to Staten Island with Tracy, to get a stop or two at Gateway, then a baseball stop for Staten Island Yankees, then we are taking the Staten Island Ferry over to downtown, then the ferry shuttle over to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty- Hope the crowds won't be too bad there...
Saturday, I'm doing Sandy Hook in New Jersey, and that night, meeting up with Don Sabbatini from Coquina for a baseball game with the Lakewood Blue Claws-
Sunday, back into NYC for catch up, plus I will try to get to St Paul's Church, and to Brooklyn at Coney Island for a baseball visit to the Brooklyn Cyclones.
If we get everything done, we may leave Monday and head on down to Maryland, I may talk \Bette into staying one more day so I can get to Long Island for those sites, we'll see.
So, this will be a busy week, for sure.
