Boston Harbor Islands Revisit

Got on the train at Wells at 0839 yesterday with our neighbor Taryn, and went down to Boston so I could finish up my stamp tour for the Boston Harbor Islands.

Got to Boston at 1030, then took the Subway down to State Street, then stopped in at Quincy Market for a light lunch before we got on the 12 noon boat for Georges Island, one of the two islands I needed.

Rode about 30 minutes or so out to Georges, which is the site of a huge old Civil War era granite fort-  we had about an hour or so in the island, lots of time to wander around, get my stamps, and enjoy the beautiful day.

Then, we took the 115 shuttle boat over to Spectacle Island, which is very small, mostly just the VC building, and learned that the next boat back to Boston would be leaving in 10 minutes or so, so we hurried over to the VC, got all of our stamps, and made the boat back to Boston, an hour ahead of schedule!!!

Like I said, not much really to Spectacle, except a large swimming beach, and lots of folks looking for sea glass- and walking up to the crest of the hill on the trails.

So we got back to the dock at about 230, so Taryn agreed that we could run up to Harvard so I could get the soccer T shirts for the boys, and we did that.  Very impressive campus, but we were in a bit of a hurry, just visited the Coop.

So, got to cross another thing off the list.  We took the subway back, and even after going the wrong way for one stop, got back to North Station by 415- plenty of time for our 5 pm train back to Wells.

It was a beautiful day for doing the tour, had a fun time with Taryn, and I am now pretty much finished with Boston for stamps.  Got maybe 90-95 percent of what I could get, and really got to know the town a lot better.
