We entered at West Yellowstone, then headed to West Thumb, which is on Lake Yellowstone, and toured the thermal areas there, and then we stopped at Grant Village, and got a stamp there, and we also had lunch. Brandon spotted a huge elk, a 10 point buck in summer velvet, and got some great shots. We then headed out the South Entrance and stopped at the Flagg Ranch information station of the Rockefeller Parkway, then headed on into our favorite park of all, Grand Teton. We made several stops there, Colter Bay, Jenny Lake, and the Moose Visitor Center, then we made a trip to the Rockefeller Preserve building and got a stamp there. From there, we took back roads down through Teton Village, and then took the back way through Idaho back up to West Yellowstone, stopping at Henry's Lake Idaho for dinner. We got back around 7 or so.
Long day, but very successful as far as stamps are concerned- and got a nice pin for Grand Teton- Didn't have one for the parkway that I could find.
This is the view from Jackson Lake as you drive into the park |
This is one of the thermal pools at West Thumb... The blues were incredible! Not sure how deep this hole is... There was lots of steam coming off the pond. |
Brandon captured this shot- He's proving to be quite a photographer.... Proud of him. |
This is a duplicate of a shot we took in 2007- I'll find it in the archives and post the pair of shots...Brandon is quite a young man now... |
This is my favorite vista of all the National Parks- The Grand Tetons... Like it better than Grand Canyon, or anywhere else! |
