Tuesday May 17- Up to Monument, and some extra touring for me...

Sadly, a little since we got to really enjoy Lathrop State Park, we broke camp and got on the road at about 0815.  121 Miles or so up the road to Monument Colorado, to our next home for 6 nights, Colorado Heights.  This is an ROD, and they call themselves a "resort.".. We've been relegated to the ROD spots, which translates to the back row, on a gravel spot, with 30 amp, but it does have sewer, and is steps away from the washrooms.  It is located right on I-25, and there is considerable road noise- but, it's free.

This will do for the week, we'll be out most days anyway... It's supposed to be chilly tonight, lows in the 30's again...  We have full sat tv and full phone reception too.
We made a fuel stop along the way at a brand new Loves, and put 60 gallons in @ 4.06.  and arrived and got settled ny about 1130.

Bette decided it was time to give the coach a thorough cleaning, which was a sign for me to take off and get some free touring in. That resulted in visits to The Colorado Sky Sox, the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame, the US Olympic Training Facility, and finally the USAF academy.  I had planned to do these tomorrow, so we have now picked up a day.

Awesome visits today:

First stop was the Pro Rodeo Museum, this was a terrific display of the history of Rodeo, and the ordinary people who have been its stars...  I spent a good hour here, and got a gift for our Medical Doctor's receptionist, and a pin.

Saw lots of folks I had seen in various rodeos across the US in my day- some real legends.

From there, ran over to the US Olympic Training Center, which is home for up to 5 or 600 athletes, trainers, etc etc as the US gets ready for the next Olympics which is 400 days away.  They were having something called the Wounded Warrior Olympics today, which of course honors veterans who have lost limbs and such as they compete.. there were several amputees in the visitor center.  God Bless them.

I got a pin, and enjoyed the Hall of Fame exbibit.

Then, I ran over to the ballfield for the Colorado Sky Sox- they have a game tonight, but I was able to talk the lady that ran the gift shop to open it for me and I got a ball and pin...  Beautiful park, great setting.

Then, after checking with Bette, got the green light to go ahead and visit the Air Force Academy... Wow, awesome setting!  They allow visitors to come, but today they had the grounds restricted to just the visitor's center and the chapel.  I did get to the visitor's center, saw a recruiting film, checked out the history of the Academy exhibits, and got a pin and a T shirt.

This is the view from one of the "overlooks"  The famous chapel is at extreme right- Lots of athletic fields!

This B-52 welcomes you as you come into the complex

This is the actual view of the football stadium from I-25, really cool, I'm betting it gets a little cold for some of their games late in the season!

Got back at 330.  Bette is bushed and sore from rigorously cleaning the coach.

Not sure about tomorrow, have to see how Bette feels-  might dead over to Florrissant Fossil Beds NPark..  have to go plan that now.
