We had an invitation from Andy Anderson, one of my coffee club fellows, to visit with his sister and husband if we got close while here in Kansas. Well, we got close, (20 Miles or so), and decided to give them a call and see if we could drop in to say hello.
We GPSed right to their front door, and believe me, they live in the boondocks. Have to take 4-5 miles of gravel roads, 10 miles from the nearest town kind of in the boondocks.
We had a delightful visit, and then we decided to run down the road a half hour or so to Council Grove, Kansas, and have dinner at a locally famous eating place, Hays House, which has operated one way or another since 1857, and is the oldest restaurant west of the Mississippi. We also got a tour of their church and family burial plots along the way, and had a super super meal.
This is part of the Allen homestead, the old milking barn, the batteries went out again in the camera, so I didn't get the main house, darn it.
Bette sprang for prime rib, of course, and I had the steak salad. Excellent meal.
Tomorrow, Bette thinks she is going to stay in and let me run on over to Abilene Kansas to do my tour stuff- Eisenhower Library and Museum, plus two or three other museums plus an old steam train place.
Weather today was perfect- full sunshine, and high about 86 or so. More of that tomorrow they say.
