Day 2 Unadilla Georgia to Andersonville, Plains, Auburn, and Tuskegee

We managed to sleep through the free breakfast at the campground, which was fine- so we had cereal and got underway at 0832-

First was a short jog over to Andersonville, Georgia, all on back roads, to visit the Andersonville National Historical Site- this was the site of the famous Southern Prisoner of War camp, that was infamous for its brutality and death rate.

Next was a half hour schlepp down to Plains, Georgia, the home of the Jimmy Carter National Historical Site.  We went to the visitors center, which we missed last time, and opted not to do any of the downtown sites, since we had done them on the last visit.  We waved hi to the Carters as we drove by, but it looked like they may not have been in town.  Their house is right on the highway, but there is a dead giveaway, the iron fence and the secret service shack.....

Then, a two hour ride on over to Auburn Alabama, and our home for the night, Chewlaca State Park.  We arrived at 1220, then discoved that somewhere along the line, we picked up an hour in crossing a time zone.

After setting up, Bette reorganized and putzed around the coach while I headed on down to the city of Tuskegee to visit two previous stops, Tuskegee Institute and Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Sites.  Got my missing stamps in good order.

Then I drove back up to the city of Auburn, so I could take a shot of Toomer's Drug Store for my buddy Tony-  Then I went off in search of a new power cord to hook up the lights for the car and coach-  seems it jumped off the mount on the way up to Auburn, and ruined the cord as it dragged on the pavement.  That was a huge frustration as I drove around to three places looking to see if they had a replacement, which they didn't.  We know that Shipps has it, since that's where we originally bought it, so we'll tend to that Monday.  I think its about 85.00 to replace.

I went to Lowe's to buy the cheapest hammer I could find, since Bette ordered one up.  Done.

Then back to the coach to rest up-  Still hottish today, sure it was near 90.

Had a nice easy cruising day today-   only 145 miles total, and we were buttoned up by 1 pm.
Tale of the Garmin:  total miles in coach today:  145  Moving Average: 46.2 mph- lots of back roads...  Total time on the road: 3:08  Total time out, 4:06.  add in another 91 miles for me to shoot down to Tuskegee, Auburn, Opelika, and back to Chewlaca chasing stamps, motor home parts, and Bette's hammer.
