San Francisco, Day 3

Kind of slept in this morning, well Bette did-  I was up early, trying to decide where or what to do today, so I threw together this:

First stop:  The USS Red Oak Victory, part of Rosie the Riveter NHP. Then we drove up to Point Reyes National Seashore, then down to San Francisco to the Cliff House, which is a part of the Golden Gate NRA, then over to the headquarters for the GGNRA, then on down to our hotel for the night, the Town Place Suites in Newark, CA.

USS Red Oak Victory:

The ship is an old Liberty Ship, among the last built at the shipyards in Richmond, Ca.  It needs work, but there is a dedicated staff of volunteers.  Got a patch, and 2 stamps, and they give you a little sticker.

We then drove up to the Point Reyes National Seashore, which was another twisty turney S curve road, through the picturesque town of Point Reyes Center, then to a very nice visitor center-  which is no where near the beach.  This is a big park, and there is a light house here, but it was 20 miles away, so we didn't go.

From there, we drove back to San Francisco to the Cliff House, which is an old resort that is part of the Golden Gate NRA-  Beautiful spot, got three stamps there.

We then drove on over to the Headquarters of the GGNRA, and I got a stamp there.

We then went across the street to the Safeway Deli and had some pretty good sandwiches for a late lunch, then debated what to do next- we thought we might head on down to Pier 33 to get the Alcatraz stamps, put passed, thought it would be too much of a hassle for parking.  Thought about stopping by Oakland Alameda Colisieum, to get some Oakland A's pins and baseball, but Bette said I should call first..  Of course, when I called, they told me the store wasn't open.  Lesson learned!  I know now to call ahead in Los Angeles for the three teams I want to visit there.

By then it was 4, so we decided to head on over to our hotel for the night, which is here at the Town Place Suites in Newark, CA.  Tomorrow, we're up and over to the San Jose airport, to catch a morning flight down to LAX.

Arrived at the hotel, which is very nice, we have a "studio" which in essence is a studio apartment, NYC style. Has a full kitchen, complete with pots pans, silverware, etc.  Wish they would have had these when I traveled!
