Recent wildlife at the pond

Bette spotted this fella just now, he alit for a few minutes, sniffed around, then took off.  Hadn't seen this variety before, with the tufted head.  Not sure what species he or she is.  Fairly large in size, nice big wingspan.   Been cloudy and spitting rain most of the day, they are calling for some significant rain this afternoon.
