Pilgrimage to Flo's Hotdogs today

We jetted over to Cape Neddick, Maine today for our annual pilgrimage to Flo's Hot Dogs. For the uninitiated, Flo's has been around selling hot dogs, steamed hot dogs, since the late 1950's. This is the mother store, a unique little shack really, with 5 inside stools, but the trick is to know what to do. You have to respond to a request, "how many" first, then those are tallied up, then you are asked, How and what to drink, then you wait, and wait, and wait, while your orders are fixed. One needs to know that while they are made to order, most everyone is expected to eat a "regular", which includes mayo, the secret sauce, celery salt, and maybe onions- there is nothing really inside the store that indicates the choices. It's always fun to watch first timers try to figure the system out. We got there almost a half hour before opening, and got a parking spot, but before opening time, the lot was full, and later when we were driving back, traffic was lined up on both sides of US 1 with folks waiting perhaps up to a half hour just to get a "Flo's." Thanks to Rosemary Hebbard for the local knowledge of how to do Flo's.
