Rambled around DC today

We picked up the Hartmans with the original idea of carpooling them down to Springfield/Franconia Metro Station to drop them off for a tour of DC, but it was raining some, so I emailed them and suggested that they modify the trip to flip what we had planned day after today to today- So we picked them up, headed over to Dunkin doughnuts for breakfast, then over to the Air and Space Annex museum at Dulles Field. We finished there pretty much by 1130, the day was young, so we decided to get ourselves into the city to have lunch at my old haunt, the Hawk and Dove on Capitol Hill. Sure enough, the bartender that I knew from 1977 was still there, behind the bar. He's been there since 1973. Wow.

Then, we decided to head on out to the Pentagon Memorial, which I hadn't seen before- on the way, we noticed a parking space in front of the National Archives building, so we parked, dashed in, and to my amazement, no lines to speak of. Extra bonus, they got to see the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, etc. etc.

Then, on out to the Pentagon Memorial. Moving.

Then a Wal Mart stop, then back to home to water Buster, then out to IHOP for dinner.

Nice full day. Tomorrow, the Hartmans are "doing" DC, Bette and I will take the day off.

We revised the onward trip this afternoon, in that we will now not visit Gettysburg and Lancaster, Pa, instead, Wed morning, we'll head over to I-66, then out to I-81, then head north, over to Binghamton, NY, then up to Albany, then over to Vt and New Hampshire, and do that part of the trip backwards from the original plan, and then move over to Maine by Sat May 8th. Better all around, plus a very pretty drive.
