Acadia National Park Wow, wow, wow......

Today, we drove in Acadia National Park for about about 4 hours, taking the loop road around the park, climbing Cadillac Mountain, (by car), and loving the awesome beauty of the park. I got a total of 4 pins, plus some postcards that will be sent out soon. Of all the parks and sites we have visited, this one is truly among the most beautiful we've seen. Bette thinks Grand Canyon is awesomer, but it's a close race for different reasons. We got in for free, thanks to our Senior Card- What a value that $10.00 has turned out to be!
More coastline, this one around Thunder Rock. It was fairly windy today, but temps were in the mid 70's.

The coastline- the drive here is awesome, with lots of rugged seashore. No houses, no settlement. Thanks to the Rockefeller families and others for buying up the land and making sure it stayed pristine.

Looking out to the South on the way up Cadillac Mountain. It was a sparkling clear day, with minimal haze. Visibility was 60 miles, they said on top.

On the way up Cadillac Mountain- what you see here is the town of Bar Harbor, with the open sea out to the right at 1 o'clock. In the foreground, you can barely make out the CAT ferry, which has been idled this year, due to low demand and high prices of passage over to Yarmouth Nova Scotia. Brandon, Bette and I traveled on the ship 2 years ago on our visit. They were loosing lots of money, and the Canadian government stopped their subsidies, so they shut down and put about 200 people out of work.
