Today was frightfully hot here in Greenwood, which reminds me why I don't like to be in SC in Mid July and August. Bette and I went uptown to a big annual BBQ festival- On the right is a sample of one of the "professional" teams and its set up. Some of these rigs were quite elaborate.....

Here is an old-timey Ice cream machine, which featured a steam driven John Deere engine, with pulleys driving the churn. It was puff-puffing along. It was mounted on an old railway tram.

There was lots of live entertainment, while we were there, Drink Small was playing. He is from Pomaria, SC, and is a 75 year old blues singer. He was fun to listen to.

This festival is getting bigger and bigger each year- There is some sort of quasi-professional organization, and Greenwood is a stop on that circuit. The big boys come out, and here was the Southern Living trailer. It was a fancy rig. The contestants ranged from mom and pop small time outfits, lots of police and fireman were there, and then the real pros with high dollar outfits. It is brutal to cook in 95 degree heat, though. They certainly earned their trophies. They handed out 10 places in about 6 catagories, so there was lots of trophies handed out. It was a nice day, spent with our pals Bev and Dave, and Val and Andy.
