Today, we decided to visit the Gettysburg Battlesite and also thought we would go to the Eisenhower National Historical site. We were defeated on both counts. Turns out the GPS took us to a field, with no Eisenhower farm in sight. When we found the Visitor Center for Gettysburg, it was permanently closed. Bummed out, we came back into town to go to a Subway for lunch. Turns out next door was a visitor center for Gettysburg. We stopped in, and discovered the answer to our problem. The National Park Service has just recently opened a new visitor center that serves all the local sites. And its located out of town. We found it, and discovered that in fact, you could take busses to the various sites, for fees. They did have a very nice bookstore/gift shop. We got frustrated again, when we tried to have our Passport stamped as proof we visited the site, and were told that they stopped doing Passports. Poop. I did get a nice pin and a gift for my service advisor at Shipps, who is a Civil War fan. But it was a frustrating visit. I would have done better to check out the NPS website, before we did the visit. Lesson learned. If we come back to the area to bring the boys, we'll know what to do. Not sure what we'll do tomorrow- for sure we have to at least make a Wal Mart run.
