Then, back up Highway 10 to the Intersection with Highway 225, which I have been to 400 times, and never realized there was a marker honoring Louis Booker Wright, who was the director of the Folger Library in DC forever. Never knew the marker was there....wasn't able to find a photo to post either.
Then, just across the street to the Connie Maxwell Children's home where there is a marker that honors the founders, and a burial site as well. Connie Maxwell is a large orphanage here in town, and has been around since the start of the 1900's. Home to several hundred kids..

After that, it was a blitz visit to multiple stops in downtown, primarily at the Court House and Main Street:
Along Main Street, the WWI and II and Korean War Marker:
Next to it, a marker that honors the Textile Workers of Greenwood County:
A little further down, the municipal fountain:
Across the street is a memorial to the fact that French General Ferdinand Foch spoke at Greenwood back just after WW I- in December of 1921-
There was supposed to be a marker indicating Greenwood's Main Street as the Widest main street in the United States, but it was not to be found....
Then, it was over to the courthouse for 3 more markers,
A large memorial to the Confederate Soldiers from the county:
A marker entitled "In God We Trust."
And lastly, a marker to the People of Greenwood County from Fuji, the largest employer in the county and a Japanese film company, on the occasion of their planting 100 Cherry Trees around the courthouse-
And another in my series of County Court Houses, the one here in Greenwood county-
Tomorrow is a trip up to Ware Shoals, then a few stops in rural Greenwood to catch some National Register sites.
That's it for today pretty much, will be heading up to school to pick up Cooper- today is his last day of school for the year, then out to lunch somewhere.
I've left off most of the details on the Markers, in the interest of saving bandwidth. I've actually created another blog to handle my Marker visits, if you have an interest in following us there in more detail- You can find it at: jimbobshistorialmarkers.blogspot.com
