June 21 A 5 Marker day, down to Troy and Bradley SC

Spent about an hour or so rambling down about 15 miles to the town of Troy SC, then wound my way back up to 3 sites in and around Bradley, SC, about 9 miles down the road.  Some interesting stops today:

Troy had two markers right next to each other, one for the Long Canes Massacre, which took place in 1760, and involved local German Settlers and the Cherokee Indians-
Right next to it was a marker for the Long Cane ARP Church which is on the National Register of Historic Places up the road a piece, and has been around since 1760 also.

Then up to Bradley, SC named after Gen. Patrick H Bradley, who was in the Confederate War, a trustee of Erskine College, and in the SC Legislature, and a big railroad man.
Out from town about 3 miles is a marker for the old Londonborough Settlement, which involved 300 Germans way back in 1765.   Kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but it was a pretty big settlement.
Then, I doubled back a bit and over a dirt road for 3 miles then out to Cedar Springs Road to the last stop for the day, the Cedar Creek ARP church, which is said to be the mother church for ARP in the Southern  United States.   It dates way back also, and has a large cemetery of very old gravesites.

5 was all I felt like doing today, it was over 100 degrees today!   I'll blog more in detail on the Historical Markers blog.
