Cooper and I headed the few miles over to the Hoover Dam complex and parked, and did the short Dam tour, which was very impressive. The Dam was built at the height of the depression, and employed up to 3500 men. It is quite a facility! Pretty sure I had been there before in the earlier days, just don't specifically remember it. They have a new memorial bridge they completed in the last year or so that is quite impressive too. Here are some shots of the tour and day:
Two views of the Tillman Bridge.. it carries US 93 traffic across from Nevada to Arizona
During the tour, the conductor made the comment that the Dam was treated like a work of art- and he was correct- everywhere was the finest marble, it was super clean, quiet, and still efficient after all of these years.
They also talked about how much the water level has dropped in the lake the last 10 years, especially this year, with the snow drought around. There is a photo inside where the lake actually overflowed the dam, which has happened only once in the dams existence.
Hope Cooper remembers his day!
